Telex & Tin Tin & the Eurovision Song Contest spoiler

Two more songs by Telex worth writing about? Wow. Color me slightly impressed with these crazy Belgians.

Part I: En Route
Id translate this lil' ditty, but honestly, its way more work for me than this deserves. A car, a monster and a road to somewhere, etc etc. Something about a train. Some french people in ties. Someone is smoking and a boat crashes. How perfect. Now remember, hang on!

Telex: En Route

That cartoon that looks cool but actually isnt? Im pretty sure its, groan, Tin Tin. It HAS to be Tin Tin. Tin Tin was from Belgium. Telex is from Belgium.

Im from the USA and we like our cartoons funny. Tin Tin is NOT funny. NOT FUNNY.

Part II: Eurovision.

While I was looking at this band i came across this SHITEOUS video: Telex's (Belgium) entry in to the Eurovision song contest. For those who care, EV is the song contest where almost every country in europe sends one crappy band to represent them in something thats a lot like a singing world atlas. Only not at as entertaining as I imagine a singing world atlas to be.

A masochist's version of good music.

The story behind it:

In 1980 Telex's manager asked them to enter for the Eurovision Song Contest. They entered, and were eventually sent to the finals, although they apparently hoped to come last: "We had hoped to finish last, but Portugal decided otherwise. We got ten points from them and finished on the 19th spot" (Marc Moulin) [3]

Their song "Euro-Vision" was a cheerful bleepy song with deliberately banal lyrics about the contest itself.

The Eurovision audience seemed unsure how to react to the performance, and after the band stopped playing there was mostly stunned silence, with scattered polite applause; Marc Moulin took a photograph of the bewildered audience. The band walked off amidst sounds of muttering. A mark of the confusion caused by the performance was when vote-counting began, and Greece awarded Belgium three points, the announcer thought she had misheard and tried to award the points to The Netherlands.

Id award the points to the Netherlands too. In fact, everyone that I know from Belgium is now officially from the Netherlands. Sorry folks, you now speak Dutch and have cheaper booze. Congrats.
